— When Johnson’s Auto Glass and Trim Shop closed Oct. 26, Kevin Bushey and Trevor Gillespie decided it was time to open a shop of their own.

The two men had been working with glass all their lives—Bushey has 33 years and Gillespie has 25 years of experience—and knew that Johnson’s closing would leave a void in the North Coutry.

So on Nov. 12, the North Country Auto Glass & Trim Shop, LLC, opened its doors to serve the region’s glass cutting needs.

“We are the only locally owned glass shop in the area,” said Gillespie, who co-owns and co-manages the new shop with Bushey. “We are also the only shop in the tri-county area that I know of to repair and replace convertible tops.”

The North Country Auto Glass and Trim Shop is equipped to do work on auto glass, fireplace glass, convertible tops, farm equipment, heavy equipment, plexi glass and Lexan.

They can also cut mirrors and will cut glass according to any pattern needed.

The patterns are drawn on cardboard, either based on measurements taken on site or on a provided template.

The glass is then scored with the glass cutter according to the desired design, and the sharp edges are ground down and polished on a glass grinding machine to make the piece safe to handle.

There’s more than glass cutting that goes on at the glass shop, though.

Windshields can be repaired, as long as they haven’t started to crack.

“We do a lot of windshield repairs,” said Bushey. “If we get a customer who doesn’t have glass insurance, they don’t have to buy a whole new windshield. They can get it repaired and save a lot of money.”

Gillespie said there is a lifetime warranty on all parts and labor, and that the North Country Auto Glass and Trim Shop takes care of everything for its customers, including insurance paperwork.
